The Gateway to Success Scholarship is the most prestigious award at Nebraska Medicine available to four new incoming undergraduate students per academic year. The Gateway to Success Scholarship is a competitive scholarship given to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement. In addition to being our most academically talented students, Gateway to Success Scholars demonstrate excellence beyond the classroom and are leaders in their schools/workplace and communities.
Nebraska Medicine is a proud sponsor of the Gateway to Success Scholarship and is dedicated to fostering the growth and advancement of healthcare leaders through education and professional development.
Scholarship Criteria
- Must be a new student at Clarkson College and accepted into an associate or bachelor’s degree program prior to the scholarship application deadline. Students must maintain full-time status each semester.
- Must be a first-generation student. For this scholarship, first-generation is defined as an individual whose parents did not complete a baccalaureate degree or who resided with and received support from only one parent who did not complete a baccalaureate degree.
- Exceptional academic achievement demonstrated with a 3.0 high school GPA or higher or a 3.0 college transfer GPA or higher. Transcript reviewed.
- Must have demonstrated financial need (determined by current FASFA). Due to the recent delay with the deadline when schools will obtain required student FASFA information from the Department of Education, the financial need requirement will be waived for the Fall 2024 semester.
- Demonstrates values of compassion and caring through service to others. Applicants must submit a list of service hours completed and one contact person to verify hours if needed.
- Must list involvement in extracurricular activities, honor societies, professional organizations, etc.
- Demonstrated leadership through involvement in multiple school, workplace, and/or community activities. List years of contribution and leadership positions held.
- Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation of their choice.
- Complete a 500-word essay that is typed, double-spaced, and with a 12-point font in Times New Roman including the following information:
- A brief introduction of who you are to the selection committee.
- A brief reflection on how you have demonstrated values of compassion and caring through service to others (i.e., community and volunteer work, work/life experience, etc.).
- A brief description of the challenges you have faced as a first-generation student and how you plan to impact your community positively as a healthcare professional.
- Must maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester, be continuously enrolled as a full-time student, and be in good academic and behavioral standing to continue receiving the scholarship.

Scholarship applications for the Spring 2025 semester are accepted November 1, 2024 to December 1, 2024 and must be emailed to the Financial Aid & Scholarship Office at [email protected] prior to the deadline. Applicants may submit reference letters with the completed scholarship application to [email protected] or emailed by the requestee to [email protected].
Award Amount
A $15,000/year automatically renewable scholarship for four years toward a bachelor’s degree or two years toward an associate’s degree.
